No student should have to walk through such an important time in their life alone.

Fostering Success and Significance (FSS) empowers, encourages and equips former foster youth as they navigate their college years. We offer relational, financial and mental health services to support students as they reach their full potential. We also help students build relationships with caring members of the community to provide additional support and encouragement as students choose a career path and plan for the future.

Mentor Support

Mentors serve as the foundational element in providing students with encouragement, guidance and support – relationships that we hope will last beyond graduation.

Student Resources

Students have access to free services such as mental health counseling, scholarship funding, books, clothing stipend… just to name a few.

Alumni Program

FSS students never age out. Our alumni continue to have access to mentoring support, resources, career coaching and more. Opportunities are also created for alumni to give back.

Financial Literacy

In September 2021, FSS is introducing a money management video series which includes topics such as: managing debt, Roth and IRA investment education, credit card debt, managing your credit score, buying a car and various types of insurance (auto, home, disability). FSS students will be graduating at the top of their class in financial literacy and money management.

Community Service

FSS requires annual community service from each of our students. As leaders, our students don’t just recognize problems, they are playing an important role in addressing and solving those problems. Students choose where they want to volunteer and FSS works with many foster care related organizations to provide opportunities for our students to speak and encourage younger foster youth.

Fun Culture

When surviving is your focus and money is tight, fun and cultural experiences are usually not given much consideration. Whether it is seeing a touring Broadway show, amateur hockey in Stockton, snowmobiling in Tahoe, water-skiing on Folsom Lake, Top Golf in Roseville or Thanksgiving with their Advocate’s family, FSS is intentional about exposing our students to fun new experiences.

Relationships

Many of our students were not able to observe healthy relationships being modeled in their early years. FSS’s greatest asset is not our financial help or any one program, it is the quality and character of our advocates, student coordinator, staff and counselors who invest their time, treasure and talent in our students. Unlike any other program or institution that our students have participated in, there is no expiration date to the relationships developed at Fostering Success.
